Mr. Gbenga Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun State and All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District in the 2023 Election, has promised to work with other lawmakers to achieve local government autonomy if elected.
Daniel made the promise while speaking at Atan Ijebu in the state’s Ijebu North East Local Government Area as part of his “Ward the Ward Campaign for the 2023 General Election.”
He also assured his constituents of quality representation, adding that grassroot development would remain a mirage unless the third tier of government was given autonomy.
He recalled some of the projects carried out by local governments when he was governor of Ogun State, adding that the country needs to revitalize local government administration.
The former governor recalled how, as governor, he was able to establish a healthcare facility while promising to convey to the powers that be the area’s deplorable state of roads.
He expressed confidence that something would be done about it soon.
Daniel stated that a lawmaker’s job is to facilitate federal government projects in his senatorial district and to use the legislative process to bring about quality governance.
During a major highlight of the event, a 66-year-old farmer, Mrs. Deborah Alake Onajinrin, emerged as the winner of the former governor’s star prize campaign lottery and empowerment program.
Onajinrin’s victory was announced ahead of another Prize Winner, Shola Adebajo of Ward 8, Ilese in the state’s Ogun North East Local Government Area, and other prize winners during the Ward-Ward campaign.
Daniel launched the campaign lottery game in late September of this year in order to better understand the needs of his constituents.
Mr. Dare Owootoba, who represented the APC presidential candidate in the upcoming 2023 general elections, was present at the campaign.
