Truckers working in the nation’s marine domain have sent an open letter to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging him to intervene immediately to put a stop to miscreants extorting truckers in the state.

The group, which operates under the aegis of Amalgamation, an umbrella body of maritime trucking associations that specialise in the movement of both export and import cargoes, stated that the appeal became necessary following the recent heinous truck accident on November 7, 2022, near the Trade Fair bridge along the Lagos Badagry expressway, in which one police inspector and two others were killed.

The letter was signed by Mr Ridwan Bello, on behalf of the group was titled, ‘Urgent plea to save our soul and business from the activities of miscreants who are extorting/assaulting our drivers, damaging trucks and causing ghastly road accidents that are claiming lives & properties in Lagos metropolis.’

The letter, according to the organisation, was a heartfelt demand for the State Government’s immediate action to stop the repeated extortion, inconceivable horror, and destructions that hoodlums inflict on truckers on a daily basis in Lagos State.

It was told that the Monday event was one of many in a long list of extortion, violence, assault, injury, truck damage, and death perpetrated by these marauding hoodlums.
