Three farmers and a commuter have been killed in two separate attacks by suspected armed herdsmen in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
The latest incident occurred on Thursday at Gilim Ashi, a farming settlement along the Naka–Agagbe road, where the victims — identified as Ioryer Kwaghkaha, Ayila Atsar, and another yet-to-be-identified individual — were shot and brutally attacked while working on their farms. Their bodies have been deposited at the Naka mortuary.
The attack has heightened tension in the community and across Naka, the LGA headquarters.
The killings happened less than 24 hours after gunmen ambushed a commercial vehicle along the Naka–Makurdi road near Kula village, killing one traveler. Although troops of the Nigerian Army repelled the earlier assault, the attackers reportedly returned on Thursday to target farmers.
Residents say the renewed violence has deepened fears in communities already grappling with persistent insecurity.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful.
