Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 115,000 trucks in the United States due to a defect that could cause the steering column’s upper shaft to detach, potentially leading to a loss of steering control.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the recall affects certain F-250, F-350, and F-450 models from the 2020 and 2021 model years. The agency warned that the defect poses a crash risk if steering control is lost.
Ford said its dealers will inspect and repair or replace the affected components free of charge. Owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified directly with instructions on scheduling service.
The move comes amid heightened regulatory scrutiny of safety issues across the auto industry, as manufacturers face increasing pressure to address defects that could endanger drivers and passengers.
