Ghana has rejected a security advisory issued on Wednesday that advised its citizens not to travel to Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The name and logo of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration appeared on the Wednesday notice.

It stated that Nigeria requested that some hotels close, citing “the directive by local authorities to hotels operating in residential buildings to close.”

There was also a “high risk of terrorism, criminality, inter-communal conflict, armed attacks, and kidnappings,” according to the report.

The government declared the statement was unauthorised in a tweet on Thursday morning, apologizing for any inconvenience it may have caused.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to refer to the travel advisory published this evening, Wednesday, November 16, 2022, advising against non-essential travel to Abuja and wishes to state that the statement was unauthorised,” the rejoinder stated.

“The Ministry is not aware of any threat directed at Ghanaians who continue to coexist peacefully with their Nigerian counterparts.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused to travelers.”
