A fire outbreak on Thursday destroyed critical sections of the Rogo General Hospital in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, the Kano State Fire Service has confirmed.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on December 11, 2025, by the Public Relations Officer of the service, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the Fire Service Emergency Response Unit, led by the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, received a distress call at about 2:36 p.m. from one Abdullahi Ahmad Rifan, reporting a fire at the hospital premises. Firefighters from the Karaye and Rogo fire stations were immediately deployed to the scene.
“On arrival, our personnel found a one-storey building measuring approximately 400 by 400 feet engulfed in flames,” the statement said.
Several key units located on the ground floor of the hospital were affected by the fire, including the Physiotherapy Clinic, Medical Emergency Unit office, Dental Unit, Out-Patient Department, ACC/Card room, DOT office and the Laboratory office.
Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical spark, although officials said further investigations would be carried out to determine the exact cause.
The statement did not immediately confirm whether there were casualties or provide details on the extent of damage to medical equipment and patient records.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Fire Service urged residents to remain vigilant and observe safety measures, particularly during the harmattan season, which is often associated with an increase in fire incidents. He advised members of the public to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property from preventable fire disasters.
