Grammy-nominated classical and gospel singer Jubilant Sykes, 71, was fatally stabbed at his Santa Monica home on Monday evening, authorities confirmed.
The Santa Monica Police Department reported that officers responded to a call around 9:19 PM, discovering Sykes with injuries consistent with a stabbing. His 31-year-old son, Micah Sykes, was found inside the residence and taken into custody.
Police stated that Micah Sykes, who has a reported history of mental illness, was booked on suspicion of homicide. The case has been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe this was an isolated incident within the household,” said police spokesperson Gilmour. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
