The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for “criminal negligence,” arguing that while Nigerians continue to suffer from insecurity at home, the government displayed military efficiency in carrying out airstrikes against alleged coup plotters in the Republic of Benin.
In a statement on Tuesday, signed by AAC National Publicity Secretary Rex Elanu, the party accused Nigerian security agencies of failing to protect citizens while acting decisively when “elite power or foreign approval is at stake.”
“The bombing of alleged coup plotters in Benin Republic exposes an uncomfortable truth: the Nigerian government does not lack capacity—it lacks commitment to the lives of its own people,” the statement said, highlighting the contrast between domestic insecurity and the government’s swift cross-border action.
The AAC described the military operation abroad as evidence that Nigeria has the capability to conduct precise intelligence and coordinated operations but prioritizes regime interests over citizen safety. The party condemned what it called “foreign-backed regional destabilization” and expressed support for the people of Benin Republic while opposing coups and external interference.
Elanu called on Nigerians to organize and resist, insisting that the country “belongs to its people” and that only civic action can reclaim national sovereignty from a government that, in the party’s view, repeatedly fails to protect its citizens.
