The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71.
The monarch died on Friday morning in Abuja after a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed in a statement by Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal, mourning the loss, described it as deeply personal and extended condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate, the emir’s family, and the entire people of Zamfara. He hailed the late traditional ruler as a pillar of support and a dedicated leader.
“His Highness’s passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara State, the northern region, and the country at large,” the governor said.
Dr Ibrahim Bello ascended the throne as the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, and led the emirate for a decade, earning respect for his commitment, dedication, and strong sense of faith.
Before becoming emir, he had a distinguished career in the civil service, rising to the rank of permanent secretary in the former Sokoto and Zamfara states.
“I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guided me and other state leaders,” Lawal added. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah.”
