Elon Musk launched a Twitter poll late Friday, November 18th, asking followers to vote on whether former US President Donald Trump’s account should be reinstated on the platform, with early results showing roughly 60% voting yes.
“Vox Populi,Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted, translating roughly as “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
The poll was available for 24 hours.
Musk, Twitter’s new owner, stated in May that he would lift the ban on Trump, whose account was suspended following last year’s attack on the US Capitol.
Musk said earlier in the day that a decision on reactivating Trump’s account was still being considered, and that Twitter had reinstated some controversial accounts that had been banned or suspended, including satirical website Babylon Bee and comedian Kathy Griffin.
Musk’s decision to poll Twitter users for input on who should be on the platform is part of the company’s massive restructuring, which includes massive layoffs.
