The Police Service Commission (PSC) has introduced a whistle-blowing policy to combat corruption and malpractice in the recruitment of personnel into the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commission said the initiative was designed to make the recruitment process transparent, fair, and merit-driven, while providing the public with a secure channel to report fraud, bribery, and other unethical practices.

In a statement issued by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, PSC explained that the policy aligns with the principles of good governance and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“This policy empowers every citizen to act as a watchdog, ensuring the recruitment process is free from bribery, fraud, and unethical influence,” Ani stated.

The Commission listed infractions covered by the policy to include solicitation or acceptance of bribes for recruitment slots, falsification of documents, manipulation of test results, sexual harassment, extortion, impersonation, and the inclusion of ghost candidates.

It assured that reports could be made anonymously or with contact details, noting that whistle-blowers would be protected against victimisation or retaliation in line with Nigerian laws.

“All reports will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and investigated thoroughly. Decisive disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against anyone found guilty of malpractice,” the statement added.

The PSC called on Nigerians to support its efforts, stressing that their vigilance and courage were crucial in building a more professional and accountable police force.
