The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has announced that the anti-graft agency recovered over ₦566 billion and more than 1,500 assets between October 2023 and September 2025.

Olukoyede made the disclosure on Thursday during a media briefing in Abuja to mark his second anniversary in office. Represented by the EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, CE Wilson Uwujaren, the Chairman said the recoveries demonstrate the Commission’s strengthened resolve to combat economic and financial crimes nationwide.

According to him, the Commission recovered ₦566,319,820,343.40, $411,566,192.32, £71,306.25, and €182,877.10 within the period. He added that the EFCC secured 7,503 convictions after filing 10,525 cases drawn from over 19,000 petitions and 29,240 investigations.

Olukoyede revealed that 1,502 non-monetary assets were recovered, including 402 properties in 2023, 975 in 2024, and 125 so far in 2025. Among the major recoveries were the final forfeiture of 753 duplexes in Lokogoma, Abuja, and the forfeiture of Nok University, now renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

He noted that some recovered properties have been allocated to government agencies for use as offices, in line with the EFCC’s policy of promoting transparency and accountability.

Olukoyede also disclosed that part of the recovered funds — totaling ₦100 billion — was channelled into key national initiatives such as the Students Loan Scheme and the Consumer Credit Scheme, aligning with the Federal Government’s agenda to expand access to education and affordable credit.

On high-profile prosecutions, Olukoyede named several former governors, ministers, and a former Central Bank governor among those facing trial, including Willie Obiano, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Darius Ishaku, Theodore Orji, Yahaya Bello, Olu Agunloye, Mamman Saleh, Hadi Sirika, Charles Ugwu, and Godwin Emefiele.

He further disclosed that 792 suspects were arrested in connection with investment and cryptocurrency fraud in Lagos, including 192 foreigners who were prosecuted and deported, warning that Nigeria would not serve as a safe haven for cybercriminals.

The EFCC boss said the Commission has revived several long-standing corruption cases involving Fred Ajudua, former PDP Chairman Haliru Bello Mohammed, former NSA Sambo Dasuki, and ex-NSITF boss Ngozi Olojeme.

Olukoyede also announced the creation of a Task Force on Naira Abuse and Dollarisation of the Economy, which he said has made notable progress in sanitising currency operations across the country.

He reiterated that the EFCC’s recoveries are not just figures but part of a broader effort to improve national welfare, with agencies like the NDDC, AMCON, FIRS, and NHIA already benefiting from recovered funds.
