According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Federal Capital Territory High Court Maitama in Abuja has overturned the Order of Committal and the whole contempt proceedings against the EFCC’s Chairman, Absulrasheed Bawa.

The EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Thursday that Justice Chizoba Oji, while ruling on a motion on notice filed by the EFCC asking the court to quash the entire proceedings in Suit No. FCT/HC/CR/184/2016 between Federal Republic of Nigeria v AVM Rufus Ojuawo, set aside the applicant’s conviction for contempt.

He went on to say that Justice Oji indicated she thought the application had merit in the interest of justice.

Bawa was found guilty of contempt of court by the court. He was charged with failing to comply with a court order ordering the restitution of a Range Rover and N40 million to the applicant in a suit.
