DRUG TRAFFICKING: 9 Ghanaians Jailed In Nigeria For Smuggling 10,843kg Of Cannabis.

Nine Ghanaians were convicted and sentenced to 72 years in prison for attempting to smuggle 10,843.95kg of cannabis into Nigeria by sea.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement yesterday that the Ghanaians, who were sentenced on Friday, were apprehended by men from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and transferred to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.

He also stated that an expectant woman, a nursing mother, and a 200-level university student were among 28 people arrested by NDLEA operatives during interdiction operations in 12 states with 9,437.6kg of cannabis and 138,053 tablets of pharmaceutical opioids, among other things.

The states are Yobe, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Jigawa, Kogi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kwara, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
