The Lagos State government announced on Monday that it would address the issues of the commercial bus drivers who are on strike and that a follow-up meeting with them has been organized for Wednesday.
In protest against extortion by members of the state’s Parks and Garages Management Committee, the drivers, acting under the aegis of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria, began a seven-day boycott of Lagos roadways.
The Lagos State Government said in a statement posted on its Facebook page that;
“The Lagos State Government is looking into the demands of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria, with a view to finding permanent solutions to the issues raised by the Association.”
According to Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the governor on transportation, the majority of union members at the first meeting on Friday were from the Badagry area, and it was decided that the meeting be adjourned until Wednesday to allow for a larger house, which would include representatives from other recognized unions.
