Some armed men suspected to be members of a cult engaged security personnel in a gun battle that lasted about an hour.

According to reports, the incident occurred late on Saturday, November 19th in the Aguleri community of Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Aguleri is the hometown of the state’s immediate past governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

The armed men were said to have stormed the community and started shooting before police arrived and both parties continued to engage in the gun battle.

The reason for the invasion was unknown, but sources in the area said the youths were on their way to a police station in the community before being repulsed by police operatives.

Although no one was killed, some police officers and members of the armed gang were injured during the shootings, according to sources.

According to police sources, at least 15 people have been arrested and are being held.

Toochukwu Ikenga, a state police spokesman, confirmed the incident and said the situation had been brought under control.
