A High Court in the Sagamu Judicial Division of Ogun State has issued an interim order stopping the state government from demolishing or interfering with properties belonging to former governor and current Ogun East senator, Gbenga Daniel.
Justice O.S. Oloyede granted the ex parte order after considering an affidavit of urgency filed by Daniel and his wife, Olufunke, in suit number HCS/371/2025. The court barred the defendants, their agents, and associates from enforcing the August 8 quit notice, carrying out any demolition, or disturbing the claimants’ possession of the properties pending the determination of a substantive motion.
The matter has been adjourned to August 19 for the hearing of an application for an interlocutory injunction.
The development comes amid a dispute over the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022. Daniel alleges the demolition threat is politically motivated and unlawful, insisting the buildings were constructed before the law took effect.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s spokesman, Kayode Akinmade, dismissed the claims, saying Daniel was served with the required notices but failed to present his planning permit and land title for verification, accusing him of resorting to “cheap blackmail.”
