The Lagos State Government has said that it is looking into allegations of corruption by members of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority and the Lagos State Building Control Agency.
According to Mukaila Sanusi, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, revealed in Alausa on Friday that the move became necessary following an allegation of malfeasance against LASPPPA and LASBCA staff in an investigative media report.
The government, according to the commissioner, was not unaware that while the majority of staff act to uphold professionalism and good ethics, there may be a few others who compromise their position and conspire with others to denigrate the system, adding that observers would do well to come up with names of perpetrators rather than making them anonymous to aid investigation.
Bamgbose-Martins advised members of the public to embrace the spirit of building correctly and resist the temptation to engage in unethical activities, as physical planning regulations remained the hope of the Lagos megacity, which was facing severe population and land use challenges.
While he would not rule out the potential of impersonation, he warned the public to be wary of touts who occasionally masquerade as cops, adding that the government has made it essential for all members of staff to display their identity cards prominently for easy identification.
