A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Brown Ofeome Ebubechukwu (BY/24B/2451), has successfully renovated a block of four classrooms and a staff office at Community Primary School, Swali, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The project, which was commissioned on July 25, 2025, attracted the presence of dignitaries, including the Bayelsa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity.

Speaking at the commissioning, Head of the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) branch, Mrs. Kosy Ifekudu, described the initiative as a testament to Corps Member Brown’s passion for community impact, noting that “this project is not just a structure, but a statement of purpose.”

In his remarks, Brown revealed that the project initially began as a campaign against cultism in schools but was expanded after he encountered the poor state of classroom facilities. “I decided to take on a more tangible intervention by renovating the classroom block,” he said.

Beyond the renovation, Brown also organized a medical outreach for NYSC officials, donated exercise books to 200 pupils, and empowered women in the community through vocational training sessions.

Commending the initiative, the Community Development Chairman of Swali, Hon. James Isaiah Gbenizibe, described the project as “unprecedented,” assuring that the community would ensure its maintenance and security.

Dr. Wisdom Poyeri, Executive Assistant to the Bayelsa State Governor on NYSC Matters, who represented the state government, applauded the corps member’s selfless service, calling him “an uncommon citizen” and urging other corps members to emulate his example.

While commissioning the project, State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo, praised Brown’s resourcefulness and highlighted the need for more support for youth-led development projects. She acknowledged that many corps members are eager to contribute meaningfully but often face financial constraints.

She called on stakeholders to support such initiatives and urged the Swali community to safeguard the renovated facility. She also encouraged other corps members to draw inspiration from Brown’s example.

The project is part of the NYSC’s Community Development Service, aimed at fostering grassroots impact and development through the selfless efforts of young Nigerians.
