BENUE ATTACKS: Ethnic Leaders Want Military Postings In Gbeji, Chembe, And Agatu

Under the auspices of Mzough U Tiv, OKI, and Omi Ny’ Igede, the chiefs of Benue state’s three principal tribes have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari to establish military bases at Gbeji and Chembe villages in the state’s Ukum, Logo, and Agatu Local Government Areas, LGAs, respectively.

The leaders indicated that the measure will assist reduce incidences of herdmen assaults in the aforementioned communities and nearby villages, as well as aid in the return of the state’s over two million Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, to their ancestral homes.

Speaking to the media in Makurdi on Thursday, the leaders, via their Chairman and President General of MUT global, Chief Iorbee Ihagh, condemned the ongoing attacks on Benue villages, notably the latest invasion of Gbeji, which took 39 lives and left many more hospitalised.
