Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are preparing for an emotional final home game of the season, where they will be officially awarded the league trophy and pay tribute to veteran striker Thomas Müller in his farewell appearance at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern clinched their 34th German league title last Sunday without kicking a ball, as nearest rivals Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by Freiburg. The result ensured Bayern held an unassailable eight-point lead with just two games remaining.
Despite having already secured the title, head coach Vincent Kompany emphasized that the team remains focused ahead of Saturday’s match against ninth-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach.
“This week has been like any other,” Kompany said during Friday’s press conference. “We’ve prepared well because it’s still an important match for us.”
“There’s no less pressure just because the title is won. We want to keep pushing. This is Thomas Müller’s final match at the Allianz Arena, and it’s a celebration for everyone. We want to make it a perfect Saturday—but it won’t be easy. Gladbach are a strong team.”
Müller, 35, joined Bayern’s youth ranks at age 10 and went on to become one of the club’s most decorated players. His achievements include 13 Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, eight Super Cups, and two UEFA Champions League trophies.
“It’s going to be a very emotional day,” Kompany added. “I’m not sure whether it’ll be more emotional for Thomas or for those around him. These are special moments—I’ve experienced it myself. Thomas still has that fighting spirit and a unique bond with the fans.”
Although Müller has mostly featured off the bench this season, Kompany—typically tight-lipped about team selections—hinted that the veteran forward could start Saturday’s match.
“I try to stay consistent with my decisions, but I’m not stupid,” Kompany said with a smile. “Let’s see what happens tomorrow. I don’t want to spoil the party.”
