Bayelsa State has acquired two aircraft to commence commercial flight operations at the Bayelsa International Airport, Governor Douye Diri announced on Tuesday.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Prime Minister of the State of Africa in Diaspora, Dr. Tin Louise-George, at the Government House in Yenagoa, Diri said the acquisition demonstrates his administration’s commitment to making the airport commercially viable and self-sustaining.
According to the governor, the newly purchased aircraft—expected to arrive soon—will operate on the Yenagoa–Lagos and Yenagoa–Abuja routes. He added that the state is open to partnerships aimed at expanding the airport’s operations and developing a smart city around the facility.
Earlier, Dr. Tin Louise-George commended the state’s vision and expressed readiness to collaborate with the Bayelsa government in areas such as aviation, smart city development, education, and healthcare.
He said his visit was to explore opportunities for collaboration and funding of strategic projects that would promote growth, investment, and connectivity in the state.
