The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained eight suspects in Ekiti State Command with 1,465 kilograms of substances believed to be Indian Hemp.

Additionally, the agency demolished five hectares of cannabis sativa farmland in Ire Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area, Ekiti, where the psychoactive plant was grown.

Speaking to reporters following the destruction of the farm and the arrest of the planters in Ado, Ekiti, yesterday (Wednesday, November 9th), the Deputy Commandant of the NDLEA in that state, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, claimed that his operatives had gathered intelligence that led to the arrest of the suspects.

“1,465 kilograms of cannabis sativa of substance commonly known as Indian hemp was recovered during the operation, while eight suspects were arrested,” said Ibrahim, who guided NDLEA to the farm.

“The exhibits have been transported to the state Command headquarters of the NDLEA in Ado Ekiti, the state’s capital, by the NDLEA.”

“The investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and whoever is found to be responsible will without a doubt be prosecuted,” he declared.

Over 20 kilometers separated the center of the community from the Indian hemp farm, which was situated in a dense forest of Ire Ekiti in the state’s Oye Local Government Area.

According to reports, NDLEA agents were tipped off by an intelligence source about the vast area of cannabis farmland, which they then found and destroyed. Indian hemp and other illicit drugs are being consumed in the state at an increasing rate, and residents have recently expressed concern about this.
