Arsenal maintained their perfect Champions League record on Wednesday with a 3–1 victory over Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium. The win, their fifth in five games, sent the Premier League leaders to the top of the tournament’s league phase standings.

Jurrien Timber opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, heading in Bukayo Saka’s corner as Arsenal capitalised on their strength in set pieces. Bayern equalised 10 minutes later through 17-year-old Lennart Karl, who finished off a move involving Joshua Kimmich and former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry.

Arsenal dominated the second half, repeatedly testing Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The pressure paid off in the 69th minute when substitute Riccardo Calafiori intercepted a loose pass from Dayot Upamecano and set up Noni Madueke to restore the lead.

Gabriel Martinelli sealed the win shortly after, taking advantage of a miscalculation by Neuer, who rushed out of his area as Eberechi Eze sent a long ball forward. Martinelli rounded the stranded goalkeeper and slotted into an empty net.

The result leaves both teams well positioned to secure top-eight finishes in the 32-team league phase, which guarantees automatic qualification for the round of 16.
