Kwara State APC chieftain Abdulrahoof Bello has described the Federal Government’s failure to designate bandits as terrorists as a major obstacle in addressing Nigeria’s growing insecurity.
Speaking on Wednesday on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Bello said the absence of such legislation makes it difficult for authorities to take decisive action against armed criminals. “I’m not aware of any law enacted by the National Assembly declaring bandits as terrorists – and that gap makes it difficult to treat them as such,” he said.
Bello also called for constitutional amendments to restore a regional system of administration, which he described as the country’s “factory setting” for returning to prosperity. “The solution to insecurity in Nigeria is to go back to the factory setting – regionalism,” he added.
The APC chieftain’s comments come amid rising concerns over repeated attacks by armed groups in several states, including recent abductions in Kwara and Kebbi States.
