The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo has said his administration will set a internal generated revenue (IGR) target of 5 per cent in the short term.
This he said, might get the state to a moderate 10 per cent contribution to the state’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Soludo stated this during a programme monitored by NwafoLive on Thursday.
Explaining the reason for the N258 billion budget for the year 2023 to the Anambra State House of Assembly, Soludo said the budget is set for the size and economy of Anambra while adding that with an economy of N5.5 trillion, the state have a budget size less than 5 per cent of GDP for the state and compared to the needs of Anambra.
According to him, N500 billion or N1 trillion might even begin to scratch the surface as the N258 billion is small looking at its size.
“We are determined to move in measured steps to give our people value while keeping our eyes on fiscal sustainability. We do not want our public finance to get to a point of fiscal insolvency. When you are looking at the size in nominal terms, it does not quite convey the full import of the money.
