Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress campaign council, has stated that linking the visit of APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu to Pa Reuben Fasoranti as the cause of the crisis currently rocking the leadership of Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, will be unfair.

Tinubu had visited Fasoranti at his residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, two weeks ago and received the elder statesman’s endorsement.

The action was criticized by Afenifere’s ‘acting’ leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who called the former Lagos State governor’s visit a well-planned attempt to divide the group.

An enraged Adebanjo, who had previously backed Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, vented his rage on ‘Politics Today,’ a popular Channels Television show, just 24 hours after Tinubu’s visit.

“Nothing is going on except for an attempt to split Afenifere, to which I will not be a party,” he said. It’s a sort of conspiracy among those who want Afenifere to be divided.

“They’ve been on this plan for over a month, and my members approached me to inform me of it, and I told them, ‘Don’t talk about it.'” It would be a distraction.’ All we need now is an election based on issues.”

In response to the allegation that his principal’s visit was the cause of the group’s crisis, Keyamo, who spoke exclusively to our correspondent, said the report contained no truth.

“The real reason for Afenifere’s wrangling is Pa Adebanjo’s hasty endorsement of a candidate without proper consultation within the organization to which he belongs.”

“Being appointed deputy leader does not make you a dictator. I had heard him say in one of his interviews, ‘That’s not how we do it.’ How do they manage it? That one person sits and makes such a significant decision without consulting anyone or your fellow elders within the same organization?

“Pa Adebanjo should tell the whole of Nigeria who he spoke with within Afenifere who gave him the green light to endorse Obi.” It all comes down to bias and hatred for Asiwaju. That’s it. That’s what pushed him to make a mistake.”
