Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, for the recent clampdown on terrorist cells in the state.
Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday, described the arrest of leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group as a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
He hailed the federal government’s proactive security strategy, noting that the development had strengthened Osun’s security and improved its capacity to safeguard citizens and protect the nation’s territorial integrity.
“The arrest has strengthened state security and enhanced the state’s capacity to protect her citizens and maintain the nation’s territorial integrity,” Adeleke stated.
The governor praised the reforms introduced under President Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser, which he said had reinvigorated security agencies including the military, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency, Nigerian Police Force, and other paramilitary bodies.
He further disclosed that Osun had benefitted from the security reforms, citing recent raids on terrorist sleeper cells in the state carried out through joint intelligence operations.
“I must commend the intelligence community for dismantling the terrorist sleeper cells across Osun State. I visited the secret police and I witnessed the great job they are doing to keep us safe,” he said.
Adeleke also applauded the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, Director-General of DSS, Inspector-General of Police, and Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their coordinated efforts.
“We praise the president, the National Security Adviser and the entire security leadership on recent advances with the arrest of the Ansaru terrorist group leaders. Similar successes recorded on various counter-terrorism fronts deserve our commendation. We are safer with a proactive security leadership,” the governor added.
