The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act swiftly and decisively in addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, following concerns raised by U.S. President Donald Trump over terrorism in the country.
Speaking after the November edition of the church’s Holy Ghost Service, themed “The Eve of Glory,” Pastor Adeboye urged President Tinubu to give the nation’s security chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorist groups or be dismissed.
The cleric, emphasizing the value of human life, said he had made similar recommendations to former President Muhammadu Buhari but regretted that the effort was not fully sustained. He urged the current administration to not only defeat terrorists but also expose their sponsors, no matter their influence or political status.
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say to our government: move fast, move diplomatically, move wisely,” Adeboye said. “Find a way to convince the President of America to delay his actions for about 100 days. Then come home and tell our security chiefs to get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign.”
He revealed that the late President Buhari once issued a similar directive, but the momentum was lost. “He is not here to tell you who gave him that advice. Three months passed, and the job wasn’t done,” he added.
Adeboye advised President Tinubu to use diplomacy to secure a 100-day grace period from the U.S. before any possible international action, stressing that such time should be used to deliver lasting security and peace.
“When I say our leaders should move fast, diplomatically, and wisely, it’s because if America attacks us, China, Russia, and other world powers will condemn it strongly but that’s all they’ll do. Britain won’t come to help us. No foreign power will,” he warned.
The cleric concluded by appealing to Nigerians and their leaders to put aside religious or political sentiments in tackling terrorism. “This is not the time for jokes, grammar, or arguments. It’s not about Christians or Muslims innocent people are dying,” he said.
