On Thursday, 14 automobiles and six motorbikes were destroyed in an explosion near Ejule-Ochadamu Junction, Olofu Bridge, in the Ochadamu region of Kogi State, killing 11 persons and injuring eight others.

According to accounts, the explosion occurred after a coal truck collided with a petrol-laden tanker, used to barricade the roadway during a protest.

The tanker drivers were claimed to be protesting an armed army attack on their colleagues. Two tanker drivers were allegedly shot by troops.

The incident sparked an argument, which devolved into the drivers, who were enraged by the action, blocking the highway with a petrol-laden truck.

According to locals, no less than 20 bodies, some of which were burned beyond recognition, were discovered at the scene.

Bisi Kazeem, the Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps, claimed in a statement that 11 people were burned to death.

He stated that preliminary inquiry suggested that the event was caused by braking failure and a traffic impediment.

According to Kazeem, the Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, has warned road users to avoid speeding, improper overtaking, and other dangerous driving habits, particularly during the ember months.
