The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will soon disclose the details of the peace agreement reached between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, under the mediation of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday during a thank-you visit to Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
President Tinubu had in June brokered a peace deal between Wike and Fubara in a bid to resolve the prolonged political crisis in the state. However, the FCT minister accused the governor of reneging on the agreement, insisting that the terms would soon be revealed to the public.
“Very soon, we will let people know what we agreed on before Mr President,” Wike said.
He cautioned residents of Tai against aligning with politicians who fail to honour agreements, stressing that such individuals should not be trusted in the name of politics.
Wike also declared that Rivers State was politically prepared for the 2027 general elections, warning that money would not determine electoral outcomes in the state and that the will of the people would prevail.
According to him, his visit to Tai was not politically motivated but intended to appreciate the people for their support for him and President Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
“It was a tough battle in 2023. You took a risk, worked with us, and God gave us victory. See what that risk has resulted in—a federal university sited in Tai and many other benefits,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Barry Npigi (APC, Rivers South-East) thanked President Tinubu and Wike for their support to the senatorial district, noting that the people had benefited significantly.
Npigi assured Wike of the district’s continued loyalty, saying the people remained committed to justice, equity and fairness as promoted by the Tinubu administration.
Also speaking, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Tai Constituency, Bernard Nbar, pledged the sustained support of his constituents, describing Tai people as trustworthy and dependable.
Chairman of Tai Local Government Council, Mbakpone Okpe, thanked Wike for the visit, describing his directive to support Tinubu in the 2023 elections as a blessing to the area.
Okpe said Tai had benefited from appointments, infrastructure and other dividends of democracy, adding that the people were ready to support President Tinubu for a second term.
“For these reasons and more, we are eager to return Mr President for another tenure. We will roll out all our votes for Tinubu and whoever you support,” he said.
