Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, has suggested that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, may soon return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pursue his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sheriff made the remark during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, noting that credible information available to him indicates that Obi is likely to seek the PDP presidential ticket.

Obi recently joined other prominent opposition figures in forming a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with the aim of dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. While he has expressed interest in contesting the election through the coalition, reports suggest that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is also eyeing the presidential ticket, possibly under the same alliance.

“Atiku has been vice president. So for him, it’s the presidency or nothing,” Sheriff said. “Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party, and his ambition remains to be president. From what I know, Obi may return to the PDP to run as its presidential candidate.”

Sheriff also questioned the political control of other likely aspirants, including Atiku and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, asking, “So tell me, which states do they control?”
