Segun Oladitan, Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), said yesterday that just one political party has expressed interest in participating in the Saturday council poll.
The OSIEC chairman did not name the political party, but emphasized that the elections will be free and fair.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has begun its campaign ahead of the council election, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it would not participate, claiming that it is unlawful and a waste of public funds.
The PDP and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) have filed lawsuits against OSIEC, disputing the scheduled conduct of the elections. Despite the lawsuits, Oladitan in a radio program in Osogbo stated that the elections will take place on Saturday and that there was no court order preventing them.
