Reno Omokri, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is free of corruption, unlike his rivals in the 2023 presidential election.
Omokri claimed in a tweet on Sunday evening that both the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had been dragged into corruption scandals.
The former aide made the remarks in response to new court documents circulating on social media that allegedly charged Tinubu with dealing with a drug cartel in Illinois, United States.
Omokri went on to say that the LP candidate, Obi, had been implicated in corruption in the Pandora Papers.
“Atiku Abubakar is Nigeria’s most investigated politician, yet he has never been found wanting,” he tweeted. He is not the subject of a criminal forfeiture of drug money, as Tinubu is, nor is he named in the Pandora Papers for corruption, as Peter Obi is.”
Tinubu recently faced political backlash from the opposition following the forfeiture of $460,000 by an Illinois court in the United States.
However, Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the APC presidential campaign council, stated in defense of the party’s presidential candidate that the money linked to Tinubu was tax deduction and not drug proceeds.
