Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the Lagos Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), stated on Tuesday that he was cited out of context by a section of the media in his alleged endorsement of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
After reportedly saying, “God would punish us if we don’t back Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Adegbite sparked the rage of numerous church leaders within and outside of the top Christian organization, who have taken a hard stance against any political party that floats a same-faith presidential ticket.
Mischief makers, he claims, misinterpreted his statements during the presentation of the stewardship report of his 12 years in the Senate by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber.
Adegbite explained further in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Relations, Very Rev. Oladapo Daramola, that he is very conscious of his position of trust as the leader of Christians in Lagos state and would never speak loosely or anything close to invoking God’s curse on those who vote against Tinubu.
