Arewa Consultative Forum, a pan-Northern socio-political organisation, has warned politicians against using hate speech and thuggery against opponents ahead of the country’s general elections in 2023.

According to the ACF, the use of hate speech, threats, and thuggery are a formula for violence in the country, and politicians have been warned to stop using vulgar language and violence for electioneering purposes.

Mallam Murtala Aliyu, Secretary-General of the ACF, made the northern body’s views known in a statement distributed to media in Kaduna on Sunday.

The letter, headlined “Hate Speech and Violence Will Be Our Deaths,” also voiced worry about politicians utilising thugs to attack their opponents, urged INEC to intervene by imposing the “harshest” punishment on politicians who participated in such behaviour.
