Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) received a higher ranking from former education minister Oby Ezekwesili than other front-runners for the presidency in 2023.

Ezekwesili claimed, while appearing as a guest on a TV station, that despite the nation’s problems with leadership, the former governor of Anambra possesses qualities that others do not.

“Someone asks you: Do you need anyone to tell you where you would be going between a cast of possible presidents that includes the three front-runners that we currently have—a possible President Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi? An Obi, that is.

Ezekwesili rates Obi higher than other top contenders, but she laments the current political system to which she claims the LP flagbearer belongs.

Despite belonging to the political class she was referring to, she continued, “He at least represents many more shapes than the other two top candidates (referring to Atiku and Tinubu).”

The majority of Obi’s supporters are young people, which the former minister claimed is evidence that Nigerian politics have changed.

She also blamed poor leadership for Nigeria’s main issue, claiming that this stunted the nation’s development. But she thinks that the country’s current political awakening, particularly among young people, will change the scene.

“Sometimes, I just try to picture what leadership would look like in the nation if they would just listen to the youth,” she said.

She believes that the enthusiasm displayed by young people during the #EndSARS protest is proof of what they are capable of.

She made her remark just a day after Obi’s supporters marched across the nation to show their support for the Labour Party candidate.

The protest was held in London, the UK, Lagos, Edo State, Delta, Kaduna, and other states throughout Nigeria.
