Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has declared that the political “leadership mistake” made by his camp in Rivers State will be corrected ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the remark during a thank-you visit to the people of Khana in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he commended them for what he described as their loyalty and political courage.
The former Rivers State governor said leaders are elected to pursue the collective interest of the people, not personal ambitions. He stressed that lessons had been learnt from past political decisions in the state.
“We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027. We will talk about it when the time comes. Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going,” Wike said.
He explained that the visit was not politically motivated but was meant to appreciate the people of Khana for standing with him and President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections, despite the political risks involved.
According to Wike, the support shown by the Khana people is already yielding results in the form of key projects and appointments in Ogoniland.
“During the turbulent period, Khana stood with us. Today, you can see the benefits—good roads, the University of Environment, and several other projects—because of the President’s love. Many appointments have also come to Ogoniland, and more are on the way,” he said.
He added that Rivers people would no longer vote strictly along party lines but would prioritise loyalty, family ties and development.
Earlier, Mr. Dumnamene Dekor praised Wike and President Tinubu for what he described as the transformation of Ogoniland, saying the area had become “the pride of the nation.”
Speaking on behalf of women in the community, Mrs. Barile Nwakoh of the APC, Khana 1 State Constituency, thanked Wike for remembering the people of Khana, noting that his growing influence in Rivers State was rooted in goodwill and sincerity.
“We are ready to work for Tinubu. Please tell Mr. President that we are here,” she said.
