Uganda’s opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, is reportedly being pursued “dead or alive” by the country’s military, according to a now-deleted social media post by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and eldest son of President Yoweri Museveni.
Kainerugaba confirmed that military operations against Bobi Wine were on orders from the Commander-in-Chief, citing the opposition leader’s alleged refusal to surrender peacefully. “Our troops have orders to bring him in dead or alive,” Kainerugaba wrote.
Bobi Wine, who has challenged Museveni in the 2021 and 2026 presidential elections, raised alarms over repeated military raids on his residence in Magere, claiming that soldiers had vandalized property, detained supporters, and threatened his family. His wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, was reportedly held at gunpoint during the operations.
The military confirmed the raids but denied assaulting Bobi Wine’s wife. Bobi Wine, in turn, condemned the actions as politically motivated violence, calling on Ugandans and the international community for attention.
