A senior aide to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, Bukola Kuti, has reportedly called for the retirement of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Tunji Disu over allegations that he leaked information concerning a controversial ₦100 million payment linked to the IGP’s son.
SaharaReporters gathered that Kuti, a Principal Staff Officer 3 (PSO 3) to the IGP who oversees postings within the Nigeria Police Force, is alleged to have accused Disu of being the source of information about the transfer of ₦100 million from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account into the bank account of Victor Adewale Egbetokun, the IGP’s son.
A senior police source said Kuti had asked the IGP to compel Disu to proceed on retirement, alleging that he was responsible for leaking details of the transaction to the media.
The development follows earlier reports by SaharaReporters detailing allegations of financial impropriety involving Victor Egbetokun, who was accused of receiving ₦100 million from the Anambra State Security Vote account in September 2025. Documents obtained by SaharaReporters showed that the funds were allegedly transferred from an Anambra State Government account domiciled with Sterling Bank into Victor Egbetokun’s personal Zenith Bank account in four tranches of ₦25 million each.
Sources said Victor Egbetokun does not hold any official position with the Anambra State Government, the Nigeria Police Force or any recognised security agency, raising questions about the justification for the transfer of security funds into his personal account.
According to records, the ₦100 million was later reversed to the original account on September 29, 2025. However, sources alleged that the money was subsequently withdrawn in cash and redeposited into Victor Egbetokun’s Zenith Bank account on October 2, 2025, again in four tranches of ₦25 million each.
When contacted, the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said Victor Egbetokun acknowledged noticing a suspicious inflow into his account and claimed he instructed his bank to reverse the transaction. He added that Victor had given standing instructions to be alerted of any inflows into his account.
SaharaReporters also reported that the IGP was displeased by the public exposure of the transaction and believed the leak was politically motivated. Sources said Egbetokun suspected the Anambra State Government of orchestrating the disclosure as part of efforts to undermine his position.
The situation has reportedly heightened internal tensions within the police hierarchy, with sources indicating that AIG Disu has been viewed with suspicion amid concerns about rivalry and power struggles at senior levels of the Force.
