An explosion was reported on the outskirts of Jibo village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State following airstrikes targeting suspected ISIS-linked terrorist positions, sources have confirmed.

A Nigerian government source said the United States coordinated the operation with Nigeria through the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), led by Nuhu Ribadu. According to the source, intelligence units within the NSA worked closely with the U.S. military, particularly the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), to identify and strike terrorist elements described as ISIS-affiliated.

The source, however, did not disclose how many targets were hit or the overall scope of the operation. As of the time of filing this report, casualties from the strike could not be independently confirmed.

In a related development, AFRICOM confirmed via social media that it carried out attacks on terrorist enclaves in northwest Nigeria. The command initially misspelled Sokoto as “Soboto” in its statement, an error that was later corrected.

Further details regarding Nigeria’s level of involvement, the extent of coordination, and any impact on civilians have not been made public.
