Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has dismissed reports suggesting an alleged plot to remove Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing them as false and aimed at causing unnecessary tension within the National Assembly.
Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Bamidele clarified that there have been no discussions or plans among senators to oust Akpabio, emphasizing that the upper chamber remains united and focused on addressing pressing national issues.
“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about removing the Senate President from office,” Bamidele said. “We are fully united and have a zero-tolerance approach to distractions because there are urgent issues of public importance that need our attention. Reports like these are clearly meant to create confusion.”
His clarification followed comments by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), who had recently alluded to previous failed attempts to impeach the Senate President.
Bamidele reaffirmed that there are no intentions within the Senate to consider the removal of any member of its leadership, stressing that the chamber remains cohesive and focused on governance.
The Senate Leader urged the public to disregard the reports, noting that the National Assembly is committed to stability and national progress.
