Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his position as the state’s chief executive, pledging to maintain peace and stability in the state.
Fubara made the remarks on Saturday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament, noting that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority for his administration. “What is important is that I am still the governor of Rivers State, and we will continue to do what we have promised the Rivers people,” he said.
The governor commended the tournament organisers for completing the week-long event without any security incidents, emphasizing that the peaceful environment underscores the state’s safety for residents, tourists, and investors.
Fubara expressed regret over recurring political tensions that have disrupted the polo tournament in previous years. “In 2024, there were serious issues; in 2025, the matter persisted, and this 2026 edition, I received only a love letter,” he said, noting the need to rise above political distractions.
Despite the challenges, the governor assured that his administration would remain focused on governance and supporting initiatives aimed at advancing the state. He also announced plans to improve facilities at the Port Harcourt Polo Club, recognized for its high-quality natural grass fields.
Fubara urged local and international participants to appreciate the city’s calm and to share accurate accounts to counter misleading perceptions about Rivers State.
The tournament attracted notable guests, including Argentina’s envoy to Nigeria, and featured teams from India and Argentina.
