The family of reality TV star Josephine Otabo, popularly known as Phyna, has announced the death of her sister, Ruth Otabo.
According to a statement issued by their legal representatives, Eko Solicitors & Advocates, and signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh, Ruth passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025,” the statement read.
Ruth had lived with the aftermath of a devastating accident in which she was struck by a Dangote truck shortly after her graduation. The incident led to the amputation of both her legs, but she continued to rebuild her life with courage.
The Otabo family appealed for privacy as they mourn their loss, adding that details of her funeral arrangements will be released later.
Her death has drawn widespread condolences from friends, fans, and well-wishers, particularly supporters of Phyna, who won Big Brother Naija Season 7
