Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen made history on Wednesday night by scoring his first-ever UEFA Champions League hat-trick, leading Galatasaray to a 3–0 victory over Dutch side Ajax at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a powerful header before doubling the lead from the penalty spot seven minutes later. He sealed his hat-trick in the 78th minute with another well-taken penalty, capping off a dominant display for the Turkish champions.
The 26-year-old’s treble continued his impressive form in Europe, bringing his tally to 12 goals in his last eight appearances for Galatasaray. He also became the first player in the club’s history to score a brace in back-to-back Champions League matches.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray from Napoli earlier this season, had previously netted twice in their 3–1 win over Bodo/Glimt on matchday three.
Wednesday’s victory marked Galatasaray’s third consecutive win in the competition, following a matchday three triumph over Liverpool in which Osimhen scored the decisive goal.
The Super Eagles forward celebrated his performance alongside teammate Leroy Sané, as the Turkish giants tightened their grip on qualification from the group stage.
