Olympic 200m finalist Favour Ofili has announced her decision to switch allegiance from Nigeria to Turkey, marking the end of a decorated chapter in her athletics career for her home country.

In a post shared on her official Twitter handle, Ofili described her 2025 season as “a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions,” before confirming the move. “As some of you have heard, I’m also starting a new chapter representing Turkey,” she wrote.

The sprinter, who reached the final of the women’s 200m at the Olympic Games, expressed pride in her achievements for Nigeria, which include six gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals across international championships.

“I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years in a highly successful way…having won SIX gold medals, TWO silver medals and TWO bronze medals in championship meets and a 200 meter Olympic finalist,” Ofili stated.

However, she also voiced disappointment over her treatment by Nigerian athletics authorities. “…while experiencing the biggest disappointment from AFN and NOC towards me,” she added, referring to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee.

Her announcement brings to a close a glittering career under Nigeria’s colours and signals a fresh start as she prepares to compete internationally for Turkey.
