The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced that any club whose head coach fails to attend the mandatory post-match press conference during the 2025/26 season will face a ₦1 million fine.
Chief Operating Officer, Davison Owumi, disclosed this in Lafia at the NPFL pre-season seminar for media officers, supporters’ club chairmen, and chief security officers.
He stressed that, in line with global best practices, only head coaches—not their assistants—are authorised to address the media after games.
“Have you ever seen Pep Guardiola send his assistant to handle a press conference after a game? From now on, post-match media duties are strictly for head coaches,” Owumi said.
NPFL Director of Communications, Harry Iwuala, also urged media officers to adopt creative strategies to promote their clubs, noting that effective publicity could greatly enhance the league’s visibility.
He further revealed that the new season will introduce pre-match interviews for both home and away teams, aimed at giving fans deeper insights into players and clubs.
