Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has said the company is facing resistance from forces opposed to its ongoing transformation programme.
Ojulari made the remarks on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) at the NNPC Towers, Abuja.
“We are under attack. We will not budge to short-term pressure, as it will not be in the best interest of Nigerians. You cannot drive change without a price, and the transformation is tough,” Ojulari said in a statement released on the company’s official X handle.
He explained that the management team, which has been in office for about five months, is prioritising refinery rehabilitation through an Incorporated Joint Venture (IJV) model, stressing that quick fixes would not guarantee sustainability. He noted that President Bola Tinubu had given him a free hand to ensure reforms are properly implemented.
Ojulari thanked the union for its support, pledging that “the enemies of this company and Nigerians will not win.”
PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, commended the progress recorded under Ojulari’s leadership, particularly in reducing crude oil theft and boosting production. He pledged the union’s full cooperation to sustain stability in the sector.
