The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday unveiled a digital platform aimed at simplifying its drug integrity test and visa clearance processes, enhancing accessibility, and strengthening the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.

The new system, known as the Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System (DITViCAS), was officially launched at a press conference in Abuja. NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by the agency’s Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, described the initiative as a “paradigm shift where enforcement meets efficiency, and commitment merges with cutting-edge technology.”

Marwa explained that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the agency’s dual approach of Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction. He noted that the manual process for obtaining NDLEA Visa Clearance Certificates had long been hindered by human interference, delays, and inefficiencies.

“With the Online Visa Clearance Portal, we are bringing an end to those bottlenecks. The system automates all processes, enhances collaboration with partner agencies, and allows applicants to complete their requests remotely,” he said.

He added that private medical centres can now partner with the agency as accredited centres for the Drug Integrity Test, bringing flexibility and convenience to applicants. “Following this launch, applicants can now apply from home, select a preferred location, and book a convenient date without waiting all day at NDLEA offices,” he said.

The new system also features E-Certification and Verification, which eliminates certificate falsification and ensures transparency across all NDLEA formations. Marwa emphasized that extending the service to tertiary institutions and other groups would help reduce drug demand without stigmatization.

He said the platform integrates advanced background check protocols, safeguarding Nigeria’s international reputation and deterring drug syndicates from exploiting travel systems. Applicants can access the portal via www.drugandvisa.ndlea.gov.ng, apply online, and receive their certificates within three to seven days.

Marwa reiterated that the agency’s mission is to save lives through prevention and early intervention, offering a non-judgmental pathway to treatment for those who test positive. “This is the future of our War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign proactive, compassionate, and data-driven,” he stated.

He concluded by urging stakeholders to adopt and support the new digital system, describing its success as a shared responsibility in Nigeria’s collective fight against drug abuse.
