NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on Wednesday reaffirmed that the alliance is working closely with the European Union (EU) to establish a “drone wall” aimed at protecting member states from hostile drone incursions.
Speaking at a briefing, Rutte said both organisations are intensifying efforts toward the initiative but clarified that their roles differ.
“The EU and NATO have different responsibilities,” he noted. “NATO provides military capabilities, while the EU brings the soft power of the internal market and ensures financial support.”
Security analysts say the renewed cooperation reflects a more unified European response to evolving threats, particularly from unmanned aerial systems increasingly used for espionage and cross-border attacks.
